Give them a Job!

When we do service, it uses the higher centers of the brain. Use jobs as an opportunity for your children to serve and give back to the family. But also, as a way to teach responsibility. Charlie is only two, but he helps with the dishes, with the cooking, with feeding the dogs in any way he can. He will throw away the diapers, gather things for me or his sister. He is an amazing helper and doesn’t even see it as a chore because it makes him feel responsible and independent.

Pro tip, if your child is “stubborn” or says “no” a lot, then they probably would do really well with added responsibility. Give them a “job” or even better a “special job.” Get as into it as they need you to & let them choose, let them lead, let them be the boss for designated activities… okay, Sally you’re in charge of the chores today. We have to get the whole house clean, how are we going to do it??
