DIY Ikea Cane Hack Tutorial #oneroomchallenge
I’ve been wanting to do the cane trend for a while. No better time than during a boho nursery makeover.
I think the cane makes the closet looks so in place and feminine. This room doesn’t have a closet, so now with this wardrobe, it can actually be considered a room! I only wish my closet was this cute.
The Brimnes wardrobe comes from Ikea (IKEA) I got mine used on Facebook Classifieds, you can buy it brand new for $149 at Ikea. It is surprisingly heavy and sturdy for an Ikea furniture piece. I have been impressed. (Used $50)
I got my caning here. https://www.franksupply.com/caning/press-in-caning.html ($48)
SUPPLIES
4 Basswood Panel Moulding (Home Depot).
TOOLS
Miter Saw
Brad Nail Gun
PROCESS
This was a super easy cane project because no cutting of the Ikea closet was required.
Take off your doors to get started
Step one: soak your cane in the tub for 30 minutes, this helps it lay flat and become more pliable.
Step two: cut the basswood to fit as a frame around the area you need to cover and cut them at 45-degree angles. This basswood is SUPER sensitive so you have to cut really really quick and sharp. Like a staccato note on the piano.
Step three: cut the cane to size
Step four: Use liquid nails to glue the cane around the edges. Put the basswood trim on top and tack it into place with brad nails. I have a porter&cable little tiny finish nailer gun. This worked amazing for that (if you don’t have one, the glue should hold it you would just need a ton of weight on top of the basswood until it’s fully dry)
Put your doors back on! and WALLA.
