We were never designed as humans to only have one emotion.

Or to only stay in one zone of regulation.

Healthy humans experience so many emotions each day. Emotions are neither good nor bad. They teach us.

When different emotions or challenges come up that send us into the different zones of regulation, we feel those emotions, let them teach us and then come back to a calm, regulated state.

 

Think of it this way:

If your child has an emergency come up... they are in a NASTY car accident or an encounter with a bully on the playground, and they stay in a calm and regulated.. that's actually alarming.

Different experiences SHOULD bring us to different zones. It's our body's way of protecting us.

We just need a way to come back to calm after.

Recognize
