Outdoor adventures with your young kiddos with Rachel Sanchez
Rachel Sanchez from @beboldlittleones is super passionate about getting outside and adventuring with her family and young kids, 7-year-old, 4-year-old, and 2-years-old.
Being outside teaches our kids SO much.
Nature is the best teacher. You can explore without restrictions. Mud, water, mess — kids get to be their free and wild selves!
Their favorite family adventure is hiking.
Hiking allows their girls to test their abilities, develop core strength, and grow in confidence and body positivity. They are building their trust in their parents and in themselves. They have great respect for nature, creatures and touch snakes, spiders, and creepy crawlers.
Logistics of Getting Outside in the Winter
The most important thing is layering! There are 3 main layers.
PRE-STEP
USE THE POTTY!
FIRST LAYER: BASE
You want this to be a moisture-wicking layer
Wool is the best for the base layer! It pulls moisture away from the body.
Cotton is the worst you can put against skin!
SECOND LAYER: MID
Warm and holds temperature (like fleece)
Fleece jammies
THIRD OUTER LAYER
Waterproof layer
This can be a rain or snow layer.
Prep Beforehand
Rachel has outer layers in the van ready to go and prepped
Prep snacks and water!
Be Safe
Tell someone where you’re going
Battery jumper
Headlamp
Heat blankets in packs etc.
All About the Memories
In ten years we are going to look back and not remember if our house was clean that Thursday, we are going to remember the big snowman we created, the snake we picked up, the hike where Maelie walked the whole time.
There are so many social and emotional benefits from being outside! My kids have been getting along so well as a result of playing together outside.
