Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea | Pretend I'm a Volcano
I received a text from my friend the other day. Her daughter came home with a paper about what makes her lava go up and what makes it come down that she colored at school. She told her mom, they had the same volcano book at her school that she has at home.
I was THRILLED. My old college roommate who lives an hour away now, has a little four-year-old who one, recognized the book, and two had a coincidental second experience with it at her preschool.
It’s creating meaningful experiences for kids and teachers all over, without me even realizing it.
I have a lot of respect and appreciation for school teachers. They didn’t get into this career for the money, they got into it to make a difference in lives. I remember growing up I absolutely loved my teachers. Looking back on all they taught me, it was way more than math and writing, they helped with confidence, self-esteem, peer relationships and so much more.
These teachers deal with difficult behaviors, big emotions, and a wide variety of abilities. Daily students in their classes lava will rise. And some days, they’ll deal with multiple eruptions. It’s inevitable that even the best teachers’ lava would rise.
When I wrote my book, Pretend I’m A Volcano, I did it with teachers in mind. This is a wonderful tool to visualize our emotions and learn tools to manage our reactions. I get messages from teachers and librarians all around the country utilizing this book in their classrooms.
I’m giving this to my kids’ first-grade and kindergarten teachers this year with a little message you can download here.
